HAHA! What a moron. I know next to nothing about emo culture or emo music and even I realized that was all bull. The author sounds like they were into a music scene because it was trendy when they were young and dropped it entirely when it stopped pissing off their parents.

"The Emo song, by the American band Adam And Andrew, has cult status on the internet, appearing on many personal websites. It is called Dear Diary and is both witty and alarming.

The chorus goes: 'Stop my breathing and slit my throat, I must be an Emo.

I don't jump around when I go to shows, I must be an Emo.

Dye in my hair and polish on my toes, I must be an Emo. I play guitar and write suicide notes, I must be an Emo."

I pretty much agree with that article. I cant imagine an emo who likes emo when they are 15 will still like it when they are 20. Not a chance. Its just an immature phase. Most people go through one at some point.

You sir are an ass.

The sheer stupidity of the structure and form of the arguement ALONE should tell you she's a complete retard without even thinking about the content.

i remember seeing an article about "emo" in The Independent. it was similar to this but less ridiculous. i just couldn't help but laugh when my dad showed me, it was just too surreal. not only what was being said but that there is space within national newspapers for the genre.

i also thought that The Independent would have conducted slightly more research than the Mail but nope, they continued to name fall out boy + mcr as emo. idiottts.

I was reading a mates issue of Kerrang and it had a few pages devoted to emos writing in to make the mail article look ridiculous... to be honest though, the letters they chose werent the best for convincing people otherwise.
#30
that was a waste of paper...and 2 minutes of my life I'm not going to get back!
there's only a handful of emo songs that are about suicide, most are about heartbreak and sex, subjects that teenagers...well most people really...can relate to because its something everybody has to go through

This doesn't make me angry because this happens a lot. Adults always try to understand youth culture from a safe distance, and no matter how well they articulate their arguements and views they nearly always get it wrong.

And considering her older perspective, can you blame her for what she wrote? From her perspective, it must be pretty messed up to see kids as young as 12 dressing all in black and talking about self harming. It doesn't mean that what she said is factual or accurate, but I can get (just about) where she's coming from. And plus she has to help sell papers, she's bound to try and shock the right-wing public. It's the freakin' Daily Mail.

But yes, what she wrote is bollocks. And I'm not even part of that subculture.
