OK, so I got a squier for free from my cousin because he bought it a couple years ago and never actually had time to learn to play. I took it cause I figured I'd either be able to use it if a friend comes over as a second guitar or that I'd find some interesting mod to try on it. I'm think I'm going to strip it and repaint/finish.

I'm uploading some pics and I'd like to know exactly what kind of squier this is. I've searched and searched and have not been able to find any squiers that look like it at all. Some all black ones, but none that are black AND have the maple neck AND have an SSS pup configuration. I'd like to find out what kind of wood is under there as well. I suppose it might help to know that it says "Made in China" on the back plate.

Anyway...thanks for your help

EDIT:

btw, sorry for the relatively poor image quality, but I think they'll be adequate.

I don't think its quite that old. He's only had it for like 2 or 3 years as far as I know. The workmanship seems to be sub-par because the nut was actually in backwards, causing chords to sound out of tune, when the thing was perfectly tuned and intonated.

You can date it on Fender website

A recent study shows that 8% of teenagers listen to nothing but music with guitars in it. Put this in your sig if you're one of the 92% who aren't close-minded morons.

I just verified on the site and it is written Korean made guitars/dating unclear. it is the only serial number that starts with VN

just by looking at the number, seems to be a korean made, maybe a 96'.

MIM fenders use the N for the 90's. the digit after being a 6. 96.

that's mex mades. but might be same for squiers.

Affinities rape most other Squires.

hmm shorten the trem arm, add some '57 fender pickups with white covers, white knobs and you're pretty close to david gilmour's black strat
