what is sweep picking? might sound like a noob question but i have no idea what this means.

can you please help me?

its not as much sweep picking as it is alternative picking. sweeping is a part of alternative picking

but back to your question
sweeping is basically picking an arpeggio in succession downward then upwards across/through the strings... basically..
think of it as strumming.... you go down string by string...
then up string by string with one fluid/motion
