I saw these guys open for minus the bear and thought that they were brilliant. Excellent live show and great album. Anyone else into them?

Man, the riffs are as sweet as a caramel covered baby dipped in icing sugar.
But serious a great band in my opinion that does just about everything right.

Insound.com probably has it a bit cheaper, think I got it there for about $12 when it came out so I doubt it's changed much.

I was just watching the last two vids on their Myspace, and I was watching the third one just now (Death Rides a Horse), and saw Mike threee or four finger tapping.

I mean, I knew the riffs were a little complex, but he was basically doing a tapping sweep. The vid's dark, but it looked like he used all four fingers while holding a chord and tapped each string from high to low, sounding like a slow sweep.

It was awesome. I REALLY wish there were tabs for them.

The best post-metal band there is, far better than Minus The Bear too in my view.

Can they really be comapred to Minus the Bear, though?

I mean, they're really different style wise.

Kickass band. As far as post-whatevar goes, I do prefer Pelican to them, though.

I might be getting me some RC vinyl soon.

They have Enter on sale on vinyl for $12.50, and the Upper Ninety single on vinyl for $7.00 on their merch site.

They look kickass as well.

I mean, how awesome is that?

I would kill for a Death Rides A Horse tab.

I do like MTB more, but they are really different.

If it helps anyone tab a RC song, here's a vid of Enter.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HorHnTyvAs

The camera's looking at Mike a lot, so it might help finding habd placement and figuring out chords and such.

I would try, but I can't make tabs well, and, without knowing the tuning, it's hard for me to tab what I see, anyway.

Sorry for the double post, but I just found this vid on Youtube.

New, unrecorded track.

It sounds AWESOME. And since it's a lot clearer, it may be easier to tab out or something, because I wouldn't mind learning it.

Russian Circles is a synonym for "awesome".

Get Enter.

Enter, sounds like an appropiate album name for the first one to get

Well, it's their only full length album.

They've got an EP and an Upper Ninety single but that's it.

Yea, the EP just had 4 of the 6 tracks that wound up on Enter, just earlier versions of them, and the single has "Re-Enter" as the B-side, which is a remix of a part of the song "Enter".

I think "Re-Enter" is good, but a little weird. I don't know what it is, something about the remix doesn't strike me THAT well. But, like I said, it's good.

ohh man if anybody could get tabs for these guys that would rule. Carpe is a great song off of enter also.

I love Russian Circles. I don't think you can compare them to Minus the Bear. But I do love Minus the Bear too.

Does anyone know what kind of gear Mike uses on stage, besides his DC Les Pauls?

All I know is he has to have some sort of fuzz box, and a loop machine, those are kind of a given, IMO.

I'm just really interested in his setup.

i think i gave these guys a listen when this thread was first posted, i didn't think much of them

i am ready to give them another try though. where to start? i see that they only have one full length and one ep. is either one more accessible or outstandingly better?
#32
Enter is the way forward, but if you're not really into the kind of music they play it will completely bore you to tears.

well i don't exactly recall what they sound like, but i don't expect it to bore me
what do they sound like anyway. bands rather than a link please...
#34
Something like a less heavy Isis without vocals.

Ehh. I say theyre a mix of Explosions in the Sky, Pelican, and some ISIS thrown in there.

Their cleans are very light, and melodic, rather than on the ambient side, like EitS do sometimes.

And their heavier riffs, while sounding completely original, IMO, do have the kind of sound like Pelican would write sometimes, and ISI some.

And the "Enter" LP is the way to go. As I said before, the EP is basically 4 out of the 6 tracks from the LP, just the earlier, more bare bones tracks.

they re-recorded the EP tracks, and added two more.

The first song I heard that got me paying attention to them was Carpe. I was obsessed with that song for like a week...

I've been RE-obsessed with it for two months now.

I've known about RC for six months now, and I've always liked them since then, and two months ago, I just started listening to them over....over....and over.

I seriously listen to the first four tracks of Enter, at least, once a day.

Proof.

And the only reason the whole album isn't the top six tracks is because my newest obsession is Minus the Bear, and I listen to "Memphis & 53rd" A LOT, and I usually don't make it to New Macabre, because I'm called away from the computer or something..

Has anyone got some tabs... or can anyone upload them to UG?

These guys are like a strange mix of Muse and Explosions In The Sky, maybe with a bit of Dream Theater.
Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown,
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time,
Watching her, these things she said,
The times she cried,
Too frail to wake this time.
