Im still looking for an amp and I cant decide, theres so many. So, Im looking for a valve half stack that has a great clean channel (Id like a Marshall Silver Jubilee but theyre rare and I want a new amp - so something along those lines). I like RHCP and get all my distortion for pedal boards etc so an amp with more than 2 channels would be a waste (I would use a distortion channel for songs like Search and Destroy by Iggy Pop so no one channel amps please). In terms of budget it doesnt matter as I just need to see how much I need to save up.

My Gear :
Fender American Strat in Metallic Red
EHX Big Muff
Boss ME-50
Boss SD-1
Fender 15 Watt Amp (Upgrade soon to a Marshall )

Get a Carvin Legacy. Awesome clean and very good drive. But there's a lot of bass in this amp but I see you use a strat so it should sound pretty good.

Im in more or less the same position

I tried out the TSL601 with a USA Telecaster Deluxe the other day and it sounded pretty damn nice (I especially liked the clean I have to say.. I guess I didnt get the chance to turn it up enough to let the valve distortion shine.. Got some quite instant RHCP tones from it (exactly what I like too xP). Its a combo though, but they have head version as well if I remember correctly.. Only thing is it has 3 channels. the DSL series has two though and they seem to be getting better reviews on harmony-central so you might wanna check that one out.. Although I've always wanted to try a jcm 800 or 900 but ah well.. So I can't compare it to those..

try the fender hot rod deluxe. great clean channel and loud enough to hold your own

If you're looking for Fru sounds, have a look for some Marshall Majors.

Very pricy, but you'll get that perfect sound for him. 200 watts of headroom too
I think his Major is more of a part of his tone than the Jubilees.

VOX custom classics!!!!!! awesome cleans, though very distinct, really brings out every nuance of your guitar playing and your guitars natural tone, i highly recomend trying one out! learn to use the weird EQ though,

they have a head version, though, its still only 30watts so i dont know how that tickles your headroom needs.

for one don't u dare get one of these ^^ newer amps their clean is nothing compared to a vintage marshall. If you want the best, get a vintage JTM 45 from the 60s (non-reissue), you will melt from its godliness.

I was partly-kidding about the Major, they're rare and stupidly pricy.

And a JTM45 is a great idea, they're about £650 new for the reissue heads or dearer for the combos (1962 Bluesbreaker)

Can a JTM stay clean at high volume? because Id love to have one but I always thought they broke up too much at high levels as theyre single channel.

You know I saw a Major sold for £500 on Ebay so theyre not too bad. Does the JTM have 2 channels?

900s are pretty good. i have a jcm 600 which is basically a 900 just 60 watts and with an effects loop(also tried a used jcm 900 at guitar center). man it sounds good with my 2x12 avatar cab w/ celestion v30's. very good rhcp tones. the 900's are also less expensive than 800's as well. Pretty good option for you.

Try a Laney TT if you can find one wherever you live, imo Laney cleans pwn Marshalls hardcore, and it's very nice on drive/distortion as well. Carvin Legacy would be very nice for you as well; or you could look at some Rivera (sp?) amps, I heard their cleans are supposed to be godly - never tried one myself, though.

If you have the money, a Mesa Boogie would be good, or maybe a newer model of marshall like the MF350.

A mesa would most probably not get you JF's sound and Ive heard not so positive things about the MF350.. a JCM900 is the way to go I think.. always surprises me how cheap you can get em used (in perfect condition) compared to modern day DSL's or TSL's (or MF's for that matter..).

JTM45s are amazing amps, single channel though, but great cleans too, great breakup and fantastic OD (think Cream)
And you can always roll back the volume to clean the sound up, but are you really gonna' crank it to the max?

Make sure you try one out first, they're usually in a few shops out of about 5.
I've only tried one clean so far (amazing by the way), I NEED to try one cranked (my mate's got one, and he's soon getting an attenuator )
