i thought it would be nice to hear the story behind the first song you've ever written.
mine was written after my first love wrote a song about me. it didn't have any words, but he told me that he couldnt think of any words that were good enough to describe me. so i wrote him one back...it had words, but it wasn't nearly as the beautiful acoustic piece he had written for me. we broke up a year and a half after that, and i have since moved on and gotten married, had several children and such. the songs i write now are more for them and the government.

The first song I wrote was a song to tell my sister to get out of my chair. It was an inspired work of art. It went something like...
Get outta my chair
You impostor.
Get outta my chair
You invader of my space.

Would you do it?

If you could make everybody poor just so you could be rich,
Would you do it?

With all your power,
What would you do?

The first song I wrote (about 4 years ago) was entitled "All Bottled Up", a song about teen angst. I have since modified the lyrics and it is a song about anti-conformity and sticking up for yourself and is now called "Down My Throat".
#4
The first song I wrote was a classical piece in C harmonic minor.

The first full song I wrote was an instrumental (don't know what genre I'd put it in) piece in D minor.

I'm not the kind of guy that writes simple songs with lyrics. I prefer to write epic instrumental stuff.
#5
Mine was a kick ass rock instrumental.

Wayward_Son, what are the chords to that song, I wanna learn it!
#6
I guess you wouldn't consider this writing per se, but i did a arrangement of the james bond theme into metal.

Here's a great idea. Post the song if you have it.

It was called "SHAZAAM!!!".

Me and a friend are into Family Guy, the episode where Peter is stranded on the island, and return, but Lois is married to Brian, so Peter as Lois cheat on Brian with Peter, and when peter lets loose, he goes, "Aaah.....aaaaaah.....aaaaaaaaaah....SHAZAAM!!!!".

Not to mention it's a superhero.

Anyway, it was this instrumental, Drop D, really simple, distorted, sounded kinda like a metalcore song, but it wasn't that fast, and it had a bluesier solo. But it never stuck. We moved to a more progressive stance, and about a year later, I had to leave the band.

I haven't been in one since.....(it's been about 5 or 6 months since I left)

the first PROPER song i wote, you know, all the way through, not just ideas, was when my boyfriend at the time gave me some lyrics he'd written and asked me to put them to music. so i did. pretty soppy, huh, lol. it seemed like a sweet song then...but on reflection, it was actually kinda nasty.

I don't write lyrics seeing as I can't seem to think of any so I prefer just making just slow instrumental song.
#10
my first was a little punk song with a 3 power chord rhythm that lasted the majority of the song and damn shitty leads over top of that. we recorded it and then my brother ended up sending it to like evrybody in the school . they all loved it

Lyrically it was a classic rock song, and wrote the bass to it too, about two weeks into learning to play it XD.

First song I wrote all music and lyrics for was called Amnesty, it was a kind of Iron Maideny kinda song in E something that I can't remember. Pretty catchy though...
#14
I co-wrote with my best friend aged 9! It was called stars and it was a bitter love song formed around basic chords, pretty sweet.

I did that all the way up the strings.

Best song ever, I do believe.

When I wrote that, I had been playing guitar for a whole 2 1/2 minutes

The first song I wrote was in spanish, called "Mi angel," which I wrote when I was like in 1st grade or something. I can't remember it, though.

Musically A punk-funk song I wrote with some freinds ( I supplied the funk).

The first song I ever wrote was pretty crappy. Essentially, it was an epic acoustic punk song with AFI-esque lyrics.

I knew nothing about time signature or key signature when I wrote it, so it was pretty incoherent.

Actually, I think I still have the tab for it.

Lmao, here's one of the first songs I ever wrote. I was extremely proud of it when I first finished recording it; I was like, "YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and I listened to it like three times a day for a week

haha these are awesome. thanks for sharing brothers. and to the person who called me a hippie? thank you. actually i wrote the song for that boy on the bus back from an anti-Nam protest...i had run away from home to go with my best friend. my mom was mad about me going, but more so about the peace sign that was tattooed on my wrist...i still have it but it's faded as i have faded.

i wrote plenty of lyrics, my early ones were choppy and not that great! i'd say it was called "Laird"

The first song I wrote was when I was about 9.... It was about wrestling (when I was into wrestling) and the tune was meant to be Puddle of Mudd's "She Hates Me" but I never got around to learning it....

the first song that I ever wrote was called I wanna go to sleep. It was about this night that I couldn't fall asleep because my thoughts were racing about a girl and I had done something really stupid. It went something like

man I really screwed up

and I messed my life up

and everything really sucks

and now I just wanna go to bed

something like that yeah

Oh...

If you're counting lyrics too, and not just music, then I wrote a SHITLOAD of lyrics back in middle school

Seriously, I have a Xanga entry from back then, in which i posted all my best lyrics, and it takes up like eighty-eight pages!!!

First song I wrote, with music and lyrics was when I'd thought of a line I really liked, and being new into a band and recently turning into a confident player I tried a hand at writing. It remains one of my favourites that I've wrote, despite the music being made up of four power chords. I knew nothing of theory back then.
The will to neither strive nor cry,
The power to feel with others give.
Calm, calm me more; nor let me die
Before I have begun to live.

-Matthew Arnold

Arguments are to be avoided; they are always vulgar and often convincing.

My first song was called "**** Off Tramp" a thrash punk crossover piece that still cracks me up to this day.

Lyrics -

Why dont you just get to ****
dont you know you smell real bad
youve no money and youve got no life
youve no life

**** of **** off tramp **** off **** off traaaaaaaaaamp !

You live in a ****ing hut
Slime it drips off your walls
Deaf as doorknocker and blind as a bat
why are you such a ****ing twat

Get a get a life Get a get a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiife

i cant really remember all the lyrics but i remember recording it about 16 years ago on a crappy radio shack mixer with a drum machine and my friend alex playing a mean improve shred solo on his gibson explorer with both guitars running through his old marshall 4 x 12 marshall jcm 900.. Oh Happy Days !!!

smoke, you get more awesome by the minute..... You have an epic beard, live near woods, listen to metal, grill stuff using makeshift bbqs out of old cans, and now we find out you have stabbed someone in the dick

My first song was horrible! I liked it then, but that was when I was an amateur!

There were no scales, no power chords, it was all barring the E and A strings, the solo was quarter notes.

Back then, I had the music in my head, but no way to put it on tab paper!

Now, it is as strong as ever, but now it comes out perfectly!

My first song was about fighting for your country, I suppose it was inspired by The Trooper by Iron Maiden.

It just came naturally really, I wanted to write a song and when I put pen to paper, thats what came out of it.

My first instrumental piece was a saxophone solo.

It was kind of a independent romantic piece. I was sitting in the middle of a forest, and started saying the lyrics out loud. I was surprised to find they made sense, and they struck on an emotional level.
I've gotten much more experience since then, my new output is much superior, but it was that song that gave me the confidence to write more material.
