So, I'm a pretty big guitar hero fan, and figured if any of you have the nasty habit of playing your instrument whilst guitar hero is being played in the background.

because, you know, it's always fun to say

"I GET 100% EVERY TIME BECAUSE I PLAY A REAL INSTRUMENT AND HAVE TO" to people.

bonus points if you can ID the bass and the what the mysterious white box under the TV is.

"killing in the name of" by Rage is being played, btw.

so yeah.
thought this might be something better than the hundreds of equipment and
"Is____ better than ____ " threads.

cheers.

Yes, GH II is great. We got it for my kid for Christmas, though the running joke is that it was really for the 'rents in the house. And I also pick up the bass and play along--learned AudioSlaves "Cochise' that way.

shame you can only play the bass part in the practice though

The only bad thing about GH is that stupid poser wanna-bees play that instead of actually learning guitar. They would rather pretend.

Well I hear you can buy covers/bodys, different colors and shapes for your SG controller. Idk if it's true though.

I always look at it as being air guitar on steroids. The cool thing is that for the under year old set, it is introducing them to a whole lot of music they wouldn't normally seek out.

Plus, like Applehead said, its really good clean fun, and has some decent inside jokes built in as well.

Oh man I wish I knew someone with guitar hero. I'm not that much into video games to actually warrant buying the game but still looks super cool. Oh and the white box looks like a joystick and since you said best console of all time it must be SNES but it could also be like Atari or NES.

I'm probally going to get burned, but I hate Guitar Hero. Kids come to my school acting like they're big pimpin just because they play a video game. Then they continue to say, "Wow the bass is so easy." Then I proceed to play Classical Thump WHILE bass slapping them in the face AND kicking them in the groin. And my old guitarest thinks that 10mins of GH=30mins of guitar practice.
#25
I hate guitar hero also.

I'd rather have more posers who actually buy a guitar than posers who just plays guitar hero.

The controllers look as gay as hell also.

Flame away.
Bass is my life.

guys above.
kind of sympathize with you
i HAAAAATTTEEEE people who claim that GH can
A) increase your skills
B) replicate actually playing.

eh.

easy on the flaming.
i mean, peripheral games are pretty much a niche.
people either love it for the fun factor, or hate it because of the lack of realism.

Who cares about the people who play it, Guitar Hero is one of the most purely fun games ever made.
#28
I'm in it for the fun factor. Besides that, you can prance around and show off while playing classic rock, which is what it's made for....I guess. Tonight I Will Rock You Tonight....gold.

Plus, YYZ on the bass is fun. I agree with Apple, though....about bass only being in Practice mode.

The people are dissing the game because of the people who talk about playing it....that is just stupid. You said you've not played it, so how do you hate something and you've never done it?

I c an assure you that if you enjoy music, guitars, bass etc...you will enjoy this game. My brother who is 32 came over and saw it and spent an hour playing it, bopping his head, foot tapping the works.

And i'm sorry but i disagree that playing it doesnt give you skills. I wold be willing tio lay my life that a kid playing guitar hero for two hours a day would be better at starting guitar than a kid who hadnt/ It's simply motor skills being worked. it wont teach you anything musical, but your muscle memory is being trained.

Dont take it all so serously - it's fun and that's it.
#36
I could actually imagine Guitar Hero strengthening your timing, as well as muscle memory...
