So... What's the point of owning/playing one?

Do they have longer necks/more frets, or what? I know they're bigger, but thats about it...

longer scale, lower register. standard tuning is generally B, as opposed to E on your standard guitar

Lower range. If you always play in lowered tunings and you didn't want the messy intonation that a standard ranged guitar can get (with the lowered tunings) or you just didn't want a 7 string, then a baritone would probably be the best bet for you.
