being a keyboardist i really should know this, but i dont. so, what are samples? i think keyboardists use them, but im not entirely sure.

It's like....little bits/melodies/parts borrowed from other songs

often fiddled around with aswell/edited a tad

It can either be a part of a song stolen and used in another (like in Madonna's Hung Up, from ABBA's Gimme Gimme Gimme) or it is where the sound of an instrument (or anything else for that matter) is recorded and then the pitch is changed so it can be played on a keyboard.

They're not stolen unless you make money off of them without gaining permission from the original author.
