Hello all,

I am going to be starting some auditioning for bands, And I wanted to put a set list together that I can play for the audition.

I want 1 or 2 songs from a few various genres. I am not a very seasoned guitarist, but I can play master of puppets (just short on tempo though) most of the way through, as well as most of NIB and seek and destroy. and know riffs from hundreds of songs. And plenty I have forgotten.

I wanted some help coming up with a list of 6 songs I could learn to audition.

I will say 2 per genre of music I play.

Metal/thrashsuch as metallica)

Grunge/Punk: (Such as nirvana)

Hard Rock: (Such as Ac/dC)

I am wanting easier songs, that sound good, and show that I can play some licks but good at rhythm and such. As A rhythem guitarist I want to show my riffs as well as my Rhythms.

Thanks much, any suggestions will be greatly used. I would also like them to be fairly well known songs, so we can play them live. thanks

If I were holding auditions I would be more impressed if you could Improvise well, and if you brought your own material...Who cares if you can play other peoples songs, if you want to get in a band and have the band go anywhere other than your friends basement then you will have to write your own material

I'm going to assume that you will either improvise solos are skip them, as the solos on some of these songs are the polar opposite of easy.

Metal:
Ozzy-Mr. Crowley
Iron Maiden-The Trooper

Grunge:
Nirvana-Come as You Are
Pearl Jam-Alive

Hard Rock:
AC/DC-Highway to Hell
Cream-Sunshine of Your Love

Grunge/Punk/Alt....i say -

"Fat Lip" - Sum 41
"Tourette's" - Nirvana

EDIT: How about some Offspring? maybe "I Choose" or "All I Want" or my fav. "The Kids Aren't Alright"

Well, If the solos are possible at my level, I will learn them, otherwise I would improvise. Which I am not that great at, but oh well. I am not great yet, But I think a band to jam with for awhile and get my stuff down would help.

the trooper is one i will learn, as well as come as you are, But sunshine of you'r love is abit too easy, and the ozzy song abit hard ( to much to fill with solos I can't do.)

The other songs I am just not to interested in at the moment.

Maybe something good by metallica... It has to be something that is only 1 guitar though, or It won't sound great.

so,

Metal:
The trooper

Grunge:
Come as you are

Hard rock:

Hard Rock: "La Grange" - ZZ Top
Metal: "Symphony Of Destruction" - Megadeth

for grunge, i really recommend using another song that's not come as you are...it's just too easy.

for hard rock, maybe do Modern Day Cowboy, by Tesla. That would probably be pretty good.

That's a great song, but the intro lick is hard.

Yeah, but it's not as hard to master as the Mr Crowley solo, so it should only take a little bit of practice, and if he can do it right, then it will be very impressive.

if you play tourette's you have to sing it

also, if you're going to be trying out for rhythm then make up some chord progressions with some weird chords, because if they have another guitar player, or just anyone that knows their stuff, they wont be that impressed with just power chords

also show that you know some theory, that should impress

Grunge: Would? - Alice in Chains. If someone can sing it, it is a real good song
Here today, gone later today.

he mentioned them bones, thats a great song, everyone loves it. i find myself singing it from time to time, hell about 10 minutes ago actually. but here's my suggestions that 1 guitarist can pull off

metal - some pantera, really any pantera, i dunno how good your pick speed is but....
"this love"
"domination"
also any godsmack would be good , its all pretty easy

grunge - AIC as you mentioned, rooster is a good tune, also anything from the offspring "smash" is great, any nirvana tune too

hard rock - soundgarden, i dunno if you might think they're grunge or not but to me they're hard rock.
