Hey, I'm getting my wisdom teeth removed next week and I was just wondering what your experiences with that. I know that its gonna hurt a lot, but to what extent/how long? Also, has anyone experienced dry socket?
#2
It doesn't hurt that badly. It's just annoying when your mouth is bleeding and numb for 2 days. Besides the discomfort caused by the numbness, your teeth will be sore for about 5 days. As long as you stick to yogurts and other soft stuff, you'll be fine.
#3
i got all 4 taken out in one day. it kinda sucked cause its hard to eat. i got a milkshake afterwards though. i dont think it hurts taht much. i really dont remember it hurting at all, but i was groggy for a few hours afterwards
#4
On the contrary, my wisdom teeth experience was quite painless, due to the massive amounts of painkiller and anastetic that they had to give me. I had some kind of special kind of surgery to remove mine, because my teeth were growing toward the front of my mouth. And I was swollen for about 4 days. I wouldn't go out in public. Good luck with the operation
#5
it really depends on how deep the roots go and how agressive they are with pulling them out that causes the bruising, which makes it hurt. The stitches may also not hold and your mouth may bleed for a few day, in which you have to have gauze in your mouth which is uncomfortable

That gauze is the worst part, in my opinion.

I have no idea about wisdom teeth, but I had a tooth removed and it didnt hurt that much. The only part that hurts is when you pull the wrapping or bandage away from where you've been holding it to stop the bleeding. Because it sticks to your gum.

All they do is give you two needles. One on the tooths nerve and then one on the roof of your mouth ( not as bad as it sounds ). And then he gets this wrench thing and starts yanking on it. It just feels numb for a few days and you cant eat a lot on that side of your mouth. Thats what I had done.

They had to knock me out for surgery. I was swollen for about a week after i got my wisdom teeth out. Definitley stick to soft foods like applesauce and yogurt. Your gonna hate the blood and the swelling, not to mention the stitches in your gums. But after a week or so its all good and you'll be able to eat soft foods like maccaroni

EDIT: my wisdom teeth were still under my gums.. Thats why the recovery was so bad. It depends on the situation that your in

you'll get knocked out. after the operation's first 5 minutes you won't remember anything (i know this because when i got mine taken out they let you listen to a cd if you wanted to, so i brought blood mountain by mastodon. i remember the wolf is loose and a minimal amount of crystal skull ).

you will be incredibly sleepy the rest of the day, and the pain after the first day is bad, but nothing a little vicodin can't handle.

the next few days, your cheeks will be incredibly swollen, and you might have to take some advil to keep the pain down.

no solid foods for about 4 days after the operation.

after you eat (or drink) meals, rinse your mouth with warm salt water.

hope this helped.

when I went in to get x-rayed one time, the dentist discovered that I had five wisdom teeth. Five. That's one more than EVERYONE else. Bow to me

Dude, I hope you don't get dry socket, that's when one of the holes don't heal up right. That was the worst part of it. By the way, I went to Sonic the next day and had a double cheeseburger, cheese sticks, and a sweet tea to drink. I didn't have much pain, but I was swelled up and I had to go back to the specialist to get some medicated gauze stuffed in the socket. I also didn't get completely knocked out durin the surgery. Fun times.
Have you ever went to put on a pair of underwear, but there weren't any, so you started runnin around the house flailin your arms while nude?

I woke up in the middle of getting all 4 of mine out. The doctor had both his hands in my mouth, on some pliers. The assistant had a scalpel in my mouth cutting.

My head was rocking back and forth from the pulling on the wisdom tooth. I passed back out after that.

I still have mine. Mine came in straight but I was told I need em out anyway. It's funny, the teeth I don't need were the ones that came in straight... kind of ironic.

I got mine out last friday. All four at once. They were growing forward (one was even coming horizontally). The surgery was completely painless. They gave me an IV and some laughing gas and I just conked out. I only needed gauze pads for the first couple hours afterwards. In all it isn't that painful. The worst part for me was the medicine made me really dizzy, nauseous, and drowsy. I get the stitches out this friday.

Good luck. I hope you like icecream.

It's awesome. You get a bunch of drugs, shit doesnt hurt. However, the bleeding gets annoying.

is it ABSOLUTELY necessary to have your wisdom teeth removed?

I had my bottom two wisdom teeth removed when I was in basic training. They didnt put me under, but they did num my mouth, then used a sort of steroid to tighten my jaw. Then they began, No pain what so ever, felt some pressure, but no pain. As for the Top two, I dont know what to tell you, havent had those taken out yet. Good Luck and enjoy your pain killers!
#25
The pain killers are the best part. Dont fall for any of that Advil or Ibuprofun sh%@.

Whatever you do dont drink through straws, that suction is what pulls out the clot and thats when you get Dry Socket..Hurts like hell and you get to go back to the Dentist

All in all if you have a good Dentist it should not be that Bad Good luck

I just got mine removed yesterday. I'm still a little sore, but it's more of an annoyance than pain. Also, it sucks to not be able to eat solid food, I'm hating that right now, but hopefully it'll be better tomorrow. Good Luck with your operation.

only if they get infected...that happened to my mum. she got an abscess in her jaw below her wisdom tooth and had to have surgery sounded pretty painful.

Thanks for the info guys. Me and my friend/bandmember (who is getting them out shortly before me) decided that right when we get home from the surgery were going to attempt to write a song or two under the influence of the surgery drugs. LOLZ.

I got all 4 yanked at once. Wasn't too bad, I just laid on the couch watching t.v. for like 2-4 days. The only downside was I lost 8 pounds.

You only need them removed if when they come in they push the rest of your teeth together...

Its actually not painful at all, well in my case. The worse part is getting them taken out. I got all 4 taken out at the same time, so I was 2 hours in a chair with my mouth open, around 2 minutes break between each tooth. When they take that metal thing and put the bar under the tooth, it feels like someone stuck a crowbar under your tooth and wants to pull it out, except painless. Just make sure you take the pain pills though, when you forget to take one its a very bad feeling in your mouth. You'll be swollen for about a week and all that week it when you talk or eat it will feel like your jaw is dislocating because its swollen around the bone and opening your mouth too much hurts.
