I'm building a Bazz Fuss pedal, and i want to add a gain control in addition to the volume, but i was wondering whether a linear or log pot would be best for the gain function.
Not my band, but something you should definitely listen to:

The most effective "gain" control is your guitar's volume control. Just turn it down.

Seriously.

the Gain pot on my DOD supra distortion is 500k, but maybe go lower, since it is a bass fuzz. the pots are variable resistors, and a 250k will take out more treble than a 500k

^All that stuff just depends on the the circuit the pot is wired into.
250k doesn't always mean less treble, and 500k can be a very wrong pot value.
Anyways, use a 1k linear off the emitter, if you must.

i did the same thing, and a 100k audio worked fine.

Cheap amps are "that bad". They suck up your tone like cocaine at Kate Moss' party.
