They're both good deals for your first bass/amp (I'm assuming they are). Go for it.

Sounds to me like an excuse.

I got my BXR 300 watt on craigslist for $250. Try to get the price to $75. They are pretty decent, even for $100.

25w.....

It won't be loud enough to play with a drumset if you are just using it alone, but if you are using a dualamp setup (like I am), and it is configured liek most older amps, then you can use it as a high amp, or you cna use it as a "tone box" for venues with a profesional PA

ANd my god! That 5 string is damn sexy! Unless you don't liek 5 string Basses (some people don't..), go for the 5 string!

The 5 string is great, but it won't sell for $100. Probably around $300 or so.

That is not a usable gigging Bass guitar amplifier unless of course you DI it and totaly rely on the PA system.
Companys shoud be banned from selling them as they are totaly useless in a proper gigging situation, I don't consider anything less than a 15" or a 2x10" (if it's an upmarket brand) good enough to gig with, the only way I would go with a 2x10" combo is if I had a 15" cab to go with it.
The minmum watts that I use for gigging is 300, on a large gig I add a second powered 450 watt cab.
G&L L2500
Squier Affinity Jazz Bass 5
Ashdown RPM pre-amp
Ashdown Little Giant 1000
300 watt 15" powered cab
450 watt 15" powered sub bass cab
2x10 + horn
1x15x10 + horn

If it's his first amp/bass he's likely not looking for something of gig power...

NOPE!
I use a 50W amp for gigging!

I also use a 100w for gigging.

Why?
Because with both amps going at the same time, amplifying specific frequencys it can exceed the dD of a 300W amp. I don't know the simulated wattage but I am guessing about 450W.

Remember, you can use 25Ws in gigging, if you use it right!
