Im going to guitar center tomorrow to buy a multi effects pedal for my brother. Whats the best one? the effects dont have to be amazing or anything considering hes only been playing for a month and doesnt have a good ear yet

why would you do such a thing.

IMO its just a waste of 100 bucks.

Buy a compressor or a russian big muff.

you co uld get both for roughly 130

and truly its a waste of money.

Chances are unless he's a les claypool nut he won't have a use for them.

A good distortion/fuzz and maybe a compressor is all your never need as a bassist.
Its much better just to put money into a good amp and good bass. Bass doesn't really need effects. It's just that cool.

maybe he likes the sounds of phasers and flangers. i will not argue you with you, this is what he wants, can you just answer the question

Multieffects are good for experimenting and finding sounds you like. When he's a better bassist (and richer), he can get individual pedals.

I heartily recommend the Digitech BP-80. I have one, it has many usable sounds and is simple to operate.

Sounds to me like an excuse.

to actually be on topic....

i use a digitech BP80 multi.
(you can get the stripped model, but it doesnt have the expression pedal.)
its REALLY good for the money

two downsides
it has a lot of tones, but none of them are exactly the same as the ones they claim to be based on.
secondly, it's not exactly the easiest thing to navigate until you've fooled around with it for a while.

but it's really good stuff.

Ibanez SW 20 / Ampeg BA 115

I have a Zoom B2.1U. its worth paying the extra over the B2 or the b1x.

I got a zoom708II multi effects.
I barely use it tbh because its a bit poop.
You have to really mess around for a setting that you really like...

its the same with the b2.1, you really have to sit with it one day and tweak with it, its confusing at first but after a while you get used to it and how to get something better, but it is really limiting how for each effect you only get 3 settings (mostly cab setup and mix amount with something like gain or sound or something for the middle knob) rather than a multitude that come on the ones that are being emulated.

well, for messing about, I put my bass through both a Digitech BP80 and a Zoom 505 II for guitar... managed to make some stage worthy effects, IMO.... good thing with putting it through the Zoom is that although it cuts out the extremely low frequencies, it sounds cool when pushing higher stuff through the music mix as a solo. But yeah, go for a BP80, I've had no trouble with it. Although it really should be used to sample effects, after which he should actually get stomp boxes.

Ive got a zoom B2 and its not bad really. Some effects are bad, but theres a few that are really good. Like the distortion and overdrive are good and can replace a russian or american big muff IMO
