Ok so I was wondering if I was an O.K. guitarist or if I suck. So I got my guitar last week, day for day, and I had never touched a guitar in my life before. So far, I play these song :

Seek And Destroy - Metallica (solo not completed)
Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple (same)
Her Ghost in the Fog - Cradle Of Filth (not perfect, but still)
Rock You Like a Hurricane - Scorpion (Rythm guitar)

now why would you go and do that. you obviously want to brag. congratulations. I've been playing for 2 years and apparently you're almost as good by complete magic. oh my god, does guiness know yet?! you're awesome, now go kill yourself.
#3
If you're not lying, I'd say you're damn good to have been only playing for a week.

Calm down, I was not bragging, I was just wondering if that was good, because these songs seemed pretty hard to me at first, and I was afraid that I was just not made to play guitar. I don't even play the solos either. No need to get upset.

EDIT : By the way, I think you're all overreacting a bit, because my friend who has been playing for almost 3 years has learned most metallica songs including the solos within like 3-4 months, while I only learned one without the solo.

if theres anything that I hate more than people just opening threads to brag when they know the answer already, its got to be such pathetic tards that have nothing better to do than MAKE UP stuff to brag about. I hope to god you're not doing that... if you are you should DEFINITELY kill yourself then.

maybe if you made a recording or two and posted it we could tell you....
"its better to burn out than to fade away"

^ aye... if you have E G C and A open chords down in a week you are doing rather good.

i learned surfing with the alien in the guitar store before i even bought my first guitar, i was jus listening to the song when i saw a guitar and i just started playing all of it by ear
#14
Wow, honestly when I started this thread I had no idea I would get flamed like those, for apparently no reason. I play like 4 songs, and I never said that I played them perfectly in my back while making a sandwich either, and all of sudden hordes of people come and post : "omfg you liar, gtfo you liar, why don't you kill yourself now ? huh ?"

I think you all need to calm down a bit and stop flaming me, because frankly, most of these songs are what my friends learned when they started playing guitar too.

I think you didn't read what was in parentheses, I don't play any solos and I play rythm guitar, what's so impossible about that ? I screw up sometimes, I never said I played them perfectly.

Basically when anyone first starts they suck, jimi hendrix wasnt amazing the first second he picked up a guitar. It takes time, effort and lots of practice to become good.
#19
Sorry for all the flames dude... you know guitarists... heh

If you do something good we call you a liar, then claim we can do it better.

If you're really that fast, that's great, and keep up the awesome work. The long-term consistency is what matters most, get those songs SHARP and PERFECT and that'll be what matters the most. Work on those solos if you can, it's good to be versatile.

Master of Puppets, even without the solos, is still a very difficult song - especially for anyone who's played less than a year. The riffage takes a lot of endurance for the right hand - something no one-week-beginner would have.

Hell, I've been playing over two years and my right hand still gets cramped up when I try to play the whole thing.

So, if you're not lying, the only other possibility is that you're playing those songs horribly and think you're pulling them off semi-decently.

Posting audio or video clips is the only way to have UG'ers honestly tell you if you're progressing well or not.
#22
Yea sound clips definitely lol. It's one thing to memorize what you're supposed to play, it's completely different to play them correctly.
#23
You (as in threadstarted) can't go around saying stuff like that and expect everyone on this site to believe you unless you give us some proof.

Come on, you've gotta have at least one friend with a video camera or something. Let us know if this is bs or not

Ok, who said master of puppets ? I said Seek And Destroy, which is a lot easier than Master, I tried master, but like you said, my picking and finger switching is nowhere near fast enough.

As for clips, I would love to show you all that I'm not a liar, and that I DID NOT PERFECT ANY OF THESE SONGS, LIKE I SAID MANY TIMES, but I live pretty far from people I know, and I don't have a car yet, I doubt my parents will want to drive like 30km just so I can record two or three songs. I don't have a webcam or a usb to jack adapter, bu I will try to find one and make an audio file, but as of now, I can't waste money because I have to pay for a year's subscription for guitar lessons and I don't work anymore so I have to do chores to pay my lessons, but I will try to find a friend who has that.

So now, can you all calm down and assume stuff, like two or three posts before this one some gay " What ? You perfected all of these songs ?", I mean, can you read man ? I said in three of my posts and in the first post that I did not perfect these songs, I still mess up sometimes and I don't play any solos, only rythm guitar.

If you really can play those songs decently at such an early stage, you don't need a teacher. All you need is a good book on music theory and you're good to go. I'm not gonna flame you. I'll just sit patiently and wait for a vid.

Guitarists can be brutal, don't let them get you down. Just keep doing what you're doing and and you'll keep improving. Sounds like you're doing great. Don't ask these guys for approval... it ain't gonna work.

TS - Post sound clips. And hey, yeah, you didn't say Master of Puppets, you said Seek and Destroy, but still - That has 8th notes at 208bpm during the solo, and I don't think you can play that riff even decently from a week of playing. Damm, I still don't nail that riff too well. *Gets practicing*.
#31
Oh, Tuxy, yes I was indeed very lucky to have that has my first guitar, because I was supposed to have a Peavy Startocaster Raptor from like a pawnshop but since I had saved a bit of money, my parents helped me bargain this guitar and an amp for $600 CAD.

To Adam: Well I don't do the solos so I don't have to worry about it yet, but hey, I didn't say I had the fast part perfect either, I screw up sometimes, it ain't perfect. To all those who don't beleive me, I will try and a usb jack so I can record, but if I don't, meh, just beleive me or don't, it's not gonna changing anything on my side. If you really think it's impossible to learn 4 newbie songs in a week, maybe you should post less and practise more like you're doing right now and you would see it's actually very possible.

Oh and Joe Duke, why does your post sound like I offended you ? I was only asking if I was doing good for a first week, and honestly, I was expecting posts like : "Well I learned that that and that, you suck man." but instead, I get flamed to no end, and some even exaggerated, I find that some are overreacting, even though I said in every post that I did not perfect any of the songs or learned the solos, some people come in here and are like : " Hey go die, you stupid fag, it's impossible that you learned the solos and got these songs perfect.", which is exactly the opposite of what I said.

King_V it's not that we think it's impossible to learn 4 songs in a week - it was just those 4 songs. And I know you don't do solo's, but if you play rhythm, you'd play he rhythm for the solo.
#33
Oh, then I misunderstood you, thats all. Yes, I do play rythm during the solo. It's not flawless though, I **** up sometimes.

Geez, I this thread has pushed me over the edge. I cannot not even read any more postings.

King, you have to defend your self, you don't need to post a video or audio file. EVERYONE, I mean everyone know you are full of crap.

You don't even own a guitar, you're making this up.

You say:"but I live pretty far from people I know", but "most of these songs are what my friends learned when they started playing guitar too." This doesn't make much sense. If you live pretty far away and make up stories you probably don't have any friends.

I am 45, and kids like you make these forums absolutly useless.

BTW, I tinkered around when I was your age. I am now learning again, doing well for 3 months back. And the most important part, Eric Clapton has asked me to play on his next album.

Last post for me. Last reading of post for me. Thanks kids for all your moronic words of stupidity.
#35
So know I don't own a guitar anymore ? Wow, this thread is complete nonesense now, and, not only is it impossible to learn these 4 miserable songs in 7 days of labor, but now, it's impossible to live far from friends too, not only that, but its inconceivable to have friends who play guitar too. Siksofus, tell me, WHAT IS possible ?
