My 3 options:

Fender American Strat

Fender Standard Strat

Fender '62 Reissue Jaguar

im looking for a tone that would suit funk, rock and blues. i play a lot of red hot chili peppers, stevie ray vaughan and jimi hendrix.so what d'you guys think? thanks in advance.

Ig your after that sorta 'Peppers' ring & tone to it I'd say the American Strat, if not the Jag.

Is there any black people on UG?
I don't think a lot of black people play guitar anymore.

they all kinda went extinct after hendrix really.

Needless to say, I lol'ed.

Out of those three guitars, I would go for the American Strat for what you play.

The jags a diffrent beast altogeather. You have to play one, see if ya like the neck, rythme circut etc. But thats what I would get, though I might throw in a middle single with just an one off switch.

Out of those I'd have the Jaguar easily. But that's just cos I love em for no particular reason. Personally though I'd have a Telecaster with Bigsby tremolo, but yeah...

I just bought the Standard HSS. It has a single pickup at the neck and center, and a dual at the bridge. I did away with tremelo by just having the music shop fix the tremelo bridge for me. I really like the sound and the big frets. It also gives me a big range of sound to choose from also. It has a five way switch so you can choose from single or combination setups. I think I paid around 400 bucks for it. Its a Mexico model but for the money I am well pleased with the purchase. I was in the music shop today looking at the amp you are talking about. I would love to get one of those. Its next on my list.
This is the Strat I purchased. http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0134702306

Besides the country of manufacture and the price, what's the actual difference between the American and the Standard?

Is the Standard a bad guitar?
#11
I'd say Jaguar. I was using my freind's yesterday and it surprised me, I normally don't like Fenders. Granted, I wouldn't buy it, but it's pretty good.

Definitely American Strat, without question from me.
Great construction, great tone, great feel, I love it. I love mine.

The standard strats aren't bad they're just built with lower grade materials.

Nice guitars, I've played one. They're $799 also, considerably cheaper than American Strats. Although Highway One's are cheaper than that and very nice.

The Standard Strat's bridge has closer string spacing and a puny trem block; however, not all MIM Strats are that way. For example, the MIM ReIssues, and other signature models such as the Jimmy Vaughn and other ones typically costing $599 or so at Guitar Center have the same size bridge as the MIA and MIJ Strats, and the old MIJ Squier Strats, which are no longer manufactured.

k thanks for the help guys. ive now decided on a strat, but im not quite sure whether to go for the

Fender 50's Stratocaster

or the

Fender 60's Stratocaster

which one would give me a better rhcp tone, that would also be good for funk, blues and rock. also, whats the difference between a maple and a rosewood fingerboard? thanks in advance.

Going on Frus originals, his favourite is his '62. He uses the '57 on stuff like Dani California but I think the '60s would be more RHCP - and looks a general nicer guitar

i could always go for the american, but i doubt i would be able to afford it, even without the extra 50 for sunburst.

By the way, Sound Control (London) sells the American Strats for 699 (pounds). You could probably find it cheaper elsewhere too. And if you get it on GAK, better yet.

60th Anniversary mexi?

I played one, damn nice, comes with Tex-Mex pickups which I loved. Looks pretty sweet too. Annoyingly the strings were 8's which hindered my ability to play it, but it is a sweet guitar.
The Laney Thread are big and clever. No exceptions.
#32
^might have a look at those too. ive heard tex-mex pickups were good for blues.
EDIT: does anyone know what the difference between a maple and rosewood fingerboard? ive heard the maple fingerboards are brighter.

If you want something you can just pick up and play, the MIA strat.
But if you want something that'll test your patience, is very unique sounding and looking, the jag steals the show. A pup upgrade and a proper set up and i'd take my CIJ jag over any american strat.

+1

Play one every now and then, and they're sexy. If I wanted to get a new strat I'd go for one of them in a heart-beat.

Yes.

I find Januars, Jazzmasters and Cyclones to be the sexiest damn guitars ever made. Then again I'm odd.

Go with the American if you can afford it, if not I'd fall back to the Jag because even if it's not quite right for the sound it's a ****in' JAG! EDIT: Or the 60th Strat, those are damn good too.

I tryed a jag in a music store and everytime I played Cant Stop with the scrap picking (or whatever you call it) I hit the pickup off switch - why does it have a pickup off switch? WHY!!!
