my amp just started crackling every once in a while for no reason. It also crackles while i adjust my volume or tone knobs on my guitar, why?

Mine does that too.

I just put it down to the fact that it's a cumbersome hulk that's 3rd hand and is falling apart.

no it does the same thing when its just my guitar and amp.

I was thinking it might be the pots or wiring?

That was happening to me. What happened was, the end of the plugin cord was bent, so it wasnt connecting right. It was knocking the bolts on my input jack loose too.

My amp also used to do that. Does your still have the stock tubes? if so thats might be the problem. The stock tubes in my classic 30 started to crackle, I just bought some new JJs for it and it stopped making the noises.

sometimes the cable connecting the amp to the speaker can get loose. open it up and take a look and see if theres anything obvious. If the volume knob makes it crackle its prob a ground problem...which is easy to fix if its the guitar...which is just getting a wiring diagram and seeing which wire in your guitar is the ground and solder it back to the right spot. Idk about grounding in an amp if theres such thing tho.......
