I've posted threads before about getting a new amp. But now I want to see what you all think about the Vox Valvetronix AD30VT 30W Guitar Combo versus a Fender Frontman 25R amp. I want a tube amp instead of a solid state. But would the Vox be loud enough for a small gig? Because whenever my Frontman gets to about volume 8, it starts to buzz and get muddy. So what are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I recently picked up a Fender 212r combo for $180 used, I love the cleans and overdrive, and it is as loud as you will ever need.

Good for you. Have a cookie.

But really... there's no cookie. And if there was, you wouldn't get one.

The Valvetronix series aren't really tube amps. They're hybrid. Not much like the real thing, but they're still very good amps. I'd say it would be a fairly significant upgrade, but I'd go a step up wattage wise (50watt is the next right?) if you want to gig though. That's likely the bare minimum.

First off, yes tube amps are better and that vox is better than the frontman

second, the vox COULD handle some small gigs, but i would go for the 50 watts vox because then you would be set and not worry

If I mic the 30W would that be enough for small gigs?

Ya, probably be fine if you're using a PA system and not just the amp.
