Why would Apple want to develop software that works for other MP3 players? I can't see how they're required to make software that's non-exclusive. Apple designed iTunes for the iPod, if the Norwegians want a legal download source for more common MP3 devices, why don't they just join Napster?

That's so stupid. Who pays $1 a song anyway? There's plenty of free downloaders they can use. What kind of law is " If someone is downloading music it must be compatible with all Mp3 players."?

that is the dumbest thing ive ever heard, dont use itunes if you dont have an ipod, is it really that hard?? theres so many other music players out there...plus, why should apple HELP its competitors out, isnt that kind of anti-capitalism??
#10
If you live in a socialist society you would think this was a groundbreaking situation.

Apple developed Itunes to be compatible with their own software. For them to be forced to make their software compatible with other mp3 players would be completely illogical. I hope Norway loses.

its not like people couldnt use a different music downloading source.

itunes isnt the only legal downloading site in the world.

It's called anti-trust legislation. You're not allowed to use a monopoly in one industry to get control of another.

I think what pisses me off about this is that its such an innane issue. Why use the legal power, which just costs money, the attention from consumer rights groups, which will just add more controversy, ending up in more money spend from the Norewgian government. Apple has to have that coes installed on their songs so that the record companies will let them sell the songs online. Why the hell do people make such a big deal of these things? A ****ing waste of money, time, and energy. Stupid things like this differ tax money from well intentioned programs to frivolous law suits.

Norway can afford it, they are the second richest country on Earth. They have a chance.

Go Norway. I don't use iTunes' store, but it will be a step toward the anti-monopolization of the mp3 market.

From a marketing perspective it would make sense for apple, really. Don't own an ipod? Don't pay for music that won't work on your MP3 players, download free music that will!
#24
Really its not all this anti-monopolization crap. People buy off itunes because its fast and easy and doesn't have any other ties. You don't have to pay monthly, you don't have to worry about music expiring if you shut down your account. You buy the song for a buck, you own, it, end of story. There are catches, such as the ipod compatability. If you want it to work on your other mp3 player, use another service, or buy the actual cd. It's pretty stupid.

this isnt unfair at all. Apple is selling a product and according to fair use you should be able to use that product anyway you see fit. They are violating fair use laws.

Being a Norwegian, I have been watching this on the news...

And it is not NORWAY against apple... It's a few people (who happen to be norwegian) vs. apple.

NORWAY FTW!
Though I really love Finland. They have nightwish, sonata arctica, lordi, COB, and lots of great power metal bands. And they are the 1st ones that took metal to eurovision (nightwish and lordi).

EDIT: plus, they have good vodka

$1 per song? You can get authentic albums cheaper than that. What's the point?

I hope Apple loses, not because I want the downloaded music to work on other Mp3 players, but just because I hate iPods. I listen to all my music on vinyl.

That's dumb! From mp3spy.ru you can buy each song for 0.10 US$, and whole albums for just 1US$ and download them in 320 kbs MP3 files that work in any player!

Although I think that's kinda stupid, 'cause Apple made itunes FOR Ipods, so why the hell would they wanna make the songs compatible with RIVAL players?

BUT I hate Apple and Itunes especially so...
