hey i was wondering is anyone knew a bunch of cool "tricks" for heavy music on guitar in a drop D tuning, stuff like notes that sound cool together, different ways to harmonize, cool chords, or anything that just sounds really evil or heavy

I guess...double stops?

B|--5b---|
G|--5b---|

Also,

G|--10h*--|

Try a harmonic there with distortion on.

Edit: For something evil, try the into to "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath. Sweet tritones.

Open low-D and the first fret on the A string.

This is called a tritone, and you can use it to substitute for power-chords for an evil sound.

Rawr.

EDIT: You can also do this anywhere else on the fretboard ie. 8th fret on the fifth string and 9th fret on the fourth string.

wouldn't it be the other way around? 8th fret on the fifth string and 9th on the fourth string?

tremolo picking is fun... not really just for metal, but it's used a lot in black metal

This is the intro to "Mrs. Butterworth" by Nirvana. Sweet intro that can impress your friends. And it's in standard tuning.

E|--------------------------------|
B|--------------------------------|
G|-----------------------3-------|
D|----2-----------------3--------|
A|----------------------1--------|
E|-0----5p3p0-0-0------------|

True, but black metal is a sub-genre of metal therefore it would be used in metal. Metal is just a generic term to basically describe all of the different types. And yeah black metal does sound pretty evil.
