If you are only sanding off the paint it shouldn't make too much of a difference

As already said, unless you're going to be snading half the body off the sound should remain unaffected. Make sure you remove all the electronics before you do it though, I know of people who forget and mess it all up >.<

It wont affect the sound as the others said but try to put something on to protect the body because it can get ugly in no time try to use that stuff they put on natural finish basses n guitars so it dont get ugly too fast.
