I was doing some recording from a friends Marshall solid state (not MG but similar) into a computer onto Audacity and when we tried to record sound would come through and show up on the computer but all the sound was being limited to .5 both sides of the recording so at some points it would flatline for a long time. We lowered recording volume but i wondered what the problem was.

i say both. you always have the option to not use the pedal at all but it will still be there like that obsessed chick you took to homecoming and never called again, sitting there waiting for your call. so yea both
This is happend to me enough bloody times.

Start > Programs > Accessories > Volume control > file > recording, then tick the Line in option.

If this isnt the root of the problem, i dont know what is. Hope this of help to you.
