I wanna play unearth, but i dont have a seven string and im too lazy to go drop b. So i move all my strings up a spot (take off the high e) and replace the bottom e w/ my bass d string. It works prefectly for standard seven string tuning. I know it will probably warp my neck, so i only keep tension on it when i play.
Am i crazy, or unoriginal? Any advice?

NOT a good idea, and if you want it done, get a luthier to do it becuase they will be able to re-set up your guitar for it

But replacing the strings and moving them up 1 would take forever.

Why not just tune down, alot more simple.

Better again, buy a guitar for drop tuning only.

Is there any black people on UG?
I don't think a lot of black people play guitar anymore.

I've done that...in standard tuning. Sounds real nice, near impossible to play. It will require truss rod adjustments.

Whatever works for you.

A bass D string is ment for a bass, not a guitar.

I recommend buying a set of strings for a 7-string guitar, and saving the high E, that way if you wanna switch to standard, you just have to restring with the high E.

What kind of bridge do you have? How loose or tight is the string?

It may work fine, but down the road it may mess your guitar up.

just the standard epiphone sg bridge, i think its the "tune o matic" or sumthing, the string is tuned to the low b, just like a standard seven string.

Thats fine, it might warp ur neck tho.

A luthier is a person specialized in making and fixing stringed insturments. In this case namely guitars.
