I'm goin to start doing wrist strengthening exercises to try and strenghten my right hand to play songs like one by metallica.

should i do this before or after i do my practice routine?

Get either;

Two stress balls
Two cricket balls
Two tennis balls...
etc. You get the point.

Get one in each hand and hold them out in front of you at chest height. Keep squeezing and letting go as fast as you can for as long as you can, eventually you'll feel the burn, that's the queue to stop, just keep doing that a few times a day.

God Damn it!! in my haste I didnt see that!!!! noo!! fool!.. anyhoo practice rythm after more intricate lead exercises, just choose a rythm.. ride it on the E for as long as you can... you mite need to take a couple of little breaks, time your self as well.. do this for a week or two and Ipromise you will notice a !huge! diffrence..

I hope that makes up for my foolery

nah, just find some fast trash riffs, and practice them a lot. start slower the build up in speed.

Hey man those things really work for that?.. I was thinking about getting one a lil while ago to help with guitar but decided it would prob be a waste of mo-ney

nah man you got the point but the burning is not a cue to stop, it a cue that its working and you need to push yourself a little more. Anyone in a gym will tell you that.
Also in the army when you're taking off the handguards on the C7 they're always like "if you cant do this your wrists are too weak, I suggest masturbation and lots of it." do it!

Yes, but only a little bit more, you shouldn't push it too far.

Or at least, that's with regards to leg training, I guess forearms/wrists are maybe a bit different.

remember to observe your picking techique too. try to use your entire arm instead of just wrist. rest your arm on the body's edge and let your wrist float. don't try to get the entire motion from just the wrist, that might get you to tense up and that's never good.

yeah they're great for wrist strengthening. Haven't used them that much because I haven't needed them, but they're not really that expensive
