NOw, this is moreso about bands in which the MUSIC is heavy, not just the vocals. Pantera is a good example, but they usually were a quarter step flat, then they went to D standard.
Simply, the heaviest standard-tuned band? If possible, a song to reccomend by them too

Megadeth or Metallica. Megadeth's tone is fuller and seems generally heavier to me, but a lot of Metallica's riffs are heavier. Hell, you could probably throw Anthrax into the mix too.

How about Opeth? Listen to "Deliverance" or "The Leper Affinity" if you want heavy.

you don't have to detune to be heavy

Exactly, but I just realised, as I was sitting here listening to Mortician, that most of the heavy bands I like detune.

I agree about Anthrax!

Others are Venom (I think), Metallica, Megadeth, AC/DC, and a lot of Sabbath.

I'd say The Dillinger Escape Plan.

Not metal, and it's not even in standard.

Silly head...

EDIT: Wait, this is just heaviest band. So it didn't have to be metal, it can be any sort of heavy music. I spend too much time in the metal forum

They tune to Eb.

Urm.. I'd have to go with old thrash bands like Testament, (really early) Slayer and Metallica.

Opeth minus some songs and Ghost Reveries.

Hit this once or twice, and you'll be twice as nice.

Some of Opeth's stuff is in E. which is impressive, since it sounds heavy as.
