I am an averagely good guitarst, i like playing rock so ill need a quite good distortion tone, but i also play at my local chirch so i will need a very good clean setting. i have been advised to get a roland 30 cube for about £109 but i am not sure. Is there a better one on the mrket for that sort of money?

I would have thought it's between the cube you mentioned or a vox valvetronix. It depends what sort of rock you play really. The vox is good for classic rock and lower gain sounds, but the cube is better at the higher gain sounds.

EDIT: having just listened to your myspace i'm thinkingmaybe the vox is slightly the better choice. But i'm not sure if the 30 watt model is in your budget.

i am a massave clasic rock fan, but i know next to nothing about amps. how much is the vox? and is it a tube amp? Because i have uesd a vox before and it was a tube amp, admitedly the high volumed distortion was amazing, but the clean sound was rubish!

The voxs are slightly more expensive, the 15 watt is about £100, and the 30 watt is about £130-£140. The vox has 1 tube in it, but to be honest it really doesn't change the fact that it is a modelling amp like the cube. I would say the weakest part about the cube is it's classic rock sort of sounds, so i would definately try them out for yourself, it's very much personal taste.

vox sounds better for you maybe, but if you can try and save up for the 50 watt vox - that way you will have a little more head room when playing at church.
