A song about a train, a film, a book and a girl

Romantic notions of black and white
And Marilyn Monroe
A padded alcove for my bones
The tracks are flat
But the ride is ****ing bumpy
Almost surrounded
But alone

The swaying motions of steel and steel
And selfish sorrow
Such base intentions never told
I can’t remember the thought I tried so hard to forget
This new thought’s far worse
Than the old

[chorus]
When evil paint escapes the frame
I’ll see you on the night train
When satisfaction turns to shame
I’ll see you on the night train

It’s just a thought that you’ll believe today
But not tomorrow
Cos nothing you touch turns to gold
Can’t be sure if it’s because you’re sick or beautiful
Maybe I’m not meant to know

I liked the lines

Almost surrounded
But alone

I can’t remember the thought I tried so hard to forget

The whole song is pretty good, I did not really dig the first three lines though. For some reason it just did not seem to click, like the rest of the song did. But the ending made up for it. What genre of music is this?
