I am thinking about buying an epiphone dot studio (black), and I will use it to play punk rock. but i have heard that hollowbodies give a lot of unwanted feedback if you turn on drive. is this true? should i buy the guitar?

Yes it is but there are some guitars which are built in a way they don't give it.

Just buy the regular Dot, no point skimping.

The Schecter CSH-1 is currently on sale for $400, it's normally around $600.

Or you can check out Ibanez Artcores.

I'm not really a big fan of the Epiphone Dots.

^I'd let a pro look at it. Once you get into the technicalities of screws...well, it's just a place you don't want to be, friend.
