I'm having a problem with my high E string.

When I play it open it sounds all muffeled and muted compared to the other open strings but fretted, its fine.

Wtf?

I installed a new neck so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

It may have something to do with the nut? I'm not sure.

make sure nothing is touching the string when it is not being fretted. Make sure that it is pressing down and making firm contact with the nut.

I had a similar problem with an old guitar, Try raising it a little, it worked for me!!
