Discuss this amazing band. I don't think they get enough credit.
Great band, and great musicians.
Formed in 1969 in Nova Scotia, and have released over 20 albums, many of which have gone Gold/Platinum in Canada

If you have not heard of them check out these songs(Some of thier Best):

- Bad Side of the Moon (Check this one out for sure!)
- Enough is Enough
- Just Between You And Me
- Oowatanite ( Great song, strange name )
- Rock N Roll Is A Viscous Game (Hells YEAH love this song)
- Roller
- Sign Of The Gypsy Queen (My favorite April Wine song, awesome harmonized solo!)
- Say Hello
- You Could Have Been A Lady (Anouther Favorite)
- Tonight is A Wonderful Time to Fall in Love

Check out those songs!

Classic rock at it's best. Common people lets give em some respect!

I think Sloopy was a roadie for these guys for a while. I myself have never heard any of the band, but I will try to hear them soon.

Yeah, alot of people seem to forget about them. Most people outside of Canada have not heard of them.

Due to Canadian broadcasting laws, 25% off all media must be Canadian content (Cancon Law)

So, I get to hear alot of them on the Ol' Classic Rock stations.

Yeah. I seen them live in a small bar, it was amazing. Sure they are "aged" but they can still rock!

Plus, there are some killer drum solos !

35% actually. You'd think that this would would result in the classic rock station where I live playing more classic rock artists that they just plain don't play, like Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen and maybe songs other than the couple that they play by Canadian musicians. I'd like to hear something other than the three songs by The Band, the one by The Five Man Electrical Band, the three by Jeff Healey or the one by Burton Cummings that they play, but what they do instead is start playing shit that is not classic rock, like The Tragically Hip or 54-40.

I heard a drum solo on one of their albums. The story was that they got a drunken guy out of the audience who had no drumming experience and he just played like a mother****er. If this story is true, it's absoultely amazing because he ends up going into a huge drum roll and it sounds like the snare is an airplane engine. It's that ****in fast, and it actually has a rhythmic pattern to it.

This may be true, but I think it was probably the actual drummer. But yeah, I have a bunch of April Wine on my computer.

Sorry if someone else already posted this. lol

Yeah the drummer of April Wine isnt that great IMO. Sorta like Phil Rudd from ACDC, just a steady beat guy but not a flashy kinda guy.

I think he's pretty good; he plays a lot of straightforward but tricky beats. I love Phil's style, but he's way more minimalistic than Jerry IMO...

Cant say they are particulary known in the UK at all. I have only read one article with them in and that was about Deep Purple.

I guess it different for people outside of Canada.

Personally, I grew up listening to them so they really give me a great nostalgic feeling.

Watch Roller or Oowatanite. I think you'll get it then. If you don't then you're obviously in the wrong headspace...

Are you sure that they are from Nova Scotia; I believe that they are from Montreal and still live and work in the city.

As for thier songs, they have some really great ones like Sign of the Gypsy Queen and Just between you and me but for the most part their songs are meh.

They originally formed in Nova Scotia but quickly moved and were discovered in Montreal.

They performed at my brothers high school in 1976/77 I believe. That was in the burbs of Montreal.

Ya, they played at local high schools around here. They were known to be around the west island of montreal; Dollard, Pierrefonds, Pointe Claire I think. Even though I think their music is average they deserve a lot of respect for making it through hard work, touring and self promotion.
#30
Yeh they have been through the trenches for sure.

They have some real gems of songs though.
