I'm sorry, this kind of bugs me and i want to know what everyone else thinks - People who are ridiculously good guitar players who have only been playing for "8 months" or something ridiculous like that, but are still playing incredibly hard pantera or metallica songs/solos. Bugs the life out of me, but i still wonder if that actually happens? I"m a quick learner with a musical background, been playing for a year, and played piano for 13 years before that, i can't play 1/4 as well as some of these other people thave have been playing for those "8 months". Bullshit?

I sure think so. It seems to me like these people who put their neo-classical shredding vids on YouTube and then claim they've been only playing for 1 year are just desperate for attention.

It's called, they practice night and day.
Duke Ellington - If it sounds good, it is good.

They probably get the idea of the song down but I doubt if they can actually play it fully.

I think someone's bitter because they're not as fast a learner as others.

Deal with it.

I'm looking at it this way... Guitar legends, who have played for their WHOLE lives with magic hands work for who knows how much time to nail their sick solos / riffs or whatever. Then some kid sits down with a guitar that mummy and daddy bought them.... play for a "year" and can power through the same solos? I KNOW some people are naturally good, and incredibly quick learners, and perhaps some people have too much time on their hands. Hell, some people mix a little of column a with a little of column b - but i still want to call bullshit. for the people that do work wonders and can play well within their first year, power to them, but no-ones going to be able to nail metallica solo's like kirk within their first year

dont be jealous. i can play Hangar 18 in its entirety, and i have only been playing 1 year. since there is no way i am going to be able to prove that, you will have to take my word for it. do you want to know how i do it? PLAYING THE GUITAR 7 HOURS A DAY the thing is, most people playing one year dont know any theory, so make fun of them for that. I know theory (not a lot) so dont make fun of me.

It's all up to the song Genre they like.

If someone likes metal, they are gonna be motivated to skip chords, scales and keys and jump straight into sounding like their heroes.

Whereas, someone who likes Oasis and idolises them is going to progress faster at basic chords and barre chords, but slower at advanced teqs such as tapping and shredding in general.

Just think that how ever fast these "8 Monthers" can play, ask them to play a
specific style in a specific key and they probably couldn't do it.

No it's not bullshit - it can happen. Some people are just naturally gifted. If they talk about about how good they are all the time then maybe they are lying but the minority generally keep quiet.

the dealio with these guys are theyre not actually writing or improving the solos. sure they can make one up, but if you started playing a basic blues progression and told them to solo theyd stare at you and wonder wtfu ck your talking about...its a he ll of a lot harder to write these solos than just to copy them
