those are tabs... basically here is a run down for how to read it
first each horizontal line (thats these ones) -------------------
represents a string on your guitar.... the letter EADGBe represent the tuning of each string... in this case standard tuning. Notice that there are 6 lines... and that you have 6 strings... but which one is the little one and which one is the thick one? it's easy.... the top line is your little string, the bottom line is your big string (or low E) heres a little diagram

e(little string)---------------
B------------------------------
G------------------------------
D------------------------------
A------------------------------
E(thick string)---------------

alright with that out of the way, what the hell do all the numbers mean? also a simple question (but not a bad question)... each number represents the fret that you are going to pluck that string at on the corresponding string.... I.E. if you have a 3 on the low E (or thick) string then you would push down just behind the 3rd fret of the low E string (or the thickest one on your guitar)

basically whatever number it says is the fret, and you play that note at that fret on the corresponding string... so the example that I gave you (with the 3rd fret on the low E) would look like this in a tab

e----------------------------------------
B----------------------------------------
G----------------------------------------
D---------------------------------------- this represents playing the 3rd fret of the low E
A----------------------------------------
E---3------------------------------------

if there are more than one number directly above each other then you strum all of those strings instead of just one..... well, I hope this helps you read the tabs for those scales... and good luck

Learn the name of the notes on the fretboard and that will make things much easier. Then the formula is Whole, Whole, Half, Whole, Whole, Whole, Half.
