Bass: Schecter Stiletto Elite-5
Amp: Gallien Krueger Backline 600 head, Peavey 2x10 4 ohm cab.
Pedals: Digitech BP80, Digitech Death Metal (totally kills your low end). Sounds beautiful on a guitar though. Heaviest pedal I've ever heard by far.

bass- Fender Jazz, soon to have a Precision as well. I love Fenders!
amp- Late 70's Peavey 700watt head, random borrowed cabs, Crate BT100 combo
pedals- I've got 27 and I'm not listing them all
technique- fingers, and as few as possible for consistency. I practice my pickstyle playing to keep it sharp but seldom find application for it (except punk music, I only use a pick. Dunlop Tortex .60mm and .73mm).

yeah I'm not really a punk/metal/rock bassist by any stretch of the imagination, but I do sit in on a LOT of punk gigs because that's the only type of band around here (minus two metalcore bands and one Metallica-worshipping band).

Well.

If you have nice equipment, not a chance in hell. With no direct bypass, your tone gets butchered. The effects are all fairly cheap sounding as well. I almost never use it now besides for really wigged out effect bits and just amusing myself in practice.

However, with shitty equipment, it does wonders in making you sound better, and was worth it until i upgraded.

I'm thinking of buying one just to see which effects i want to buy in the future. And i am using a behringer so it can't get much worse. Plus the main reason is so i can practice with the drums and stuff and practice my improv. Good idea or not?

i wonder how many people here are actually punks and bassists.

I don't think he actually only wants input from people who are punks and play bass, more like from bassists who play punk. I'm a big punk fan, and I love playing punk/going to punk shows. However I think that the ideals behind the culture are generally laughable and ridiculous.
