For a cheap solution, mattresses will work.

Or you could go to Musicians Friend and buy some soundproofing foam

By the time you eat that many eggs and buy the carpet it probably would have been cheaper to just buy the real deal...

What type of room do you need to sound proof?
Why do you need to sound proof?
What's the most you're willing to pay?

I'm not too sure that it could be done on $50 alone.

I'm not sure how the room is set up but, first get those egg carton foam mattresses and then cover the ceiling with those, then staple blankets across the ceiling.

Try to cover up weak spots a little more and if possible cover the walls with those foam mattresses.

just one question im confussed about:

Are these tips for keeping outside sounds silent from recording, or to stop the reverb/early reflections of what you are recording?

His parents don't want to hear him play guitar so he's trying to keep the sounds from escaping.

Bill Nye the Science guy did something about sound proofing a long time ago. You should look on youtube for it!

I get that, I just read the one about the egg carton matresses and thought that would proboly work good to dampin the room and give it a warmer sound
