I need a 3rd electric guitar to keep at my girlfriends house as she plays the keyboard and we sometimes want to do impromptu jam sessions, but I never have a guitar with me. Plus she says she will mess around with it if I leave it there. Thus I need a 3rd, but cheaper guitar for her place and I am not about to leave my Hellraiser or Start there. Ya, I know, it's a lame excuse, but induldge me.

My price range will be around $200, maybe a little more, and I don't mind buying used. But I want a guitar that sounds different from my other two guitars, so looking for suggestions on what to get. My Hellraiser is all stock with EMG active pups, but I have upgraded the pups in my Strat to Vintage Noiseless in the neck/mid and a SD JB jr in the bridge. I have a cheap 15W Crate SS amp I can leave at my girls house, so just need a basic guitar. Thinking about a Ibanez, Les Paul copy, or an SG copy, but am worried they will all sound too similar to my Hellraiser. Thoghts on those or any other recommendations?

An Epiphone Dot or Sheraton which are cheap.. are great and sound great for almost every genre, (except heavy metal... I think)

Epi Dot $399 http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/product/buy_epiphone_dot_electric_guitar?full_sku=100077365

Epi Sheraton $599
http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/product/buy_epiphone_sheraton_ii_electric_guitar?full_sku=100287426

there is little difference in sound between those.. but the Sheraton definetley has better finish and a more muddy sound

but try both if you dont like those sounds try playing these Casino (that is at the same price as the Sheraton) http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/product/buy_epiphone_casino_electric_guitar?full_sku=518295%2e019

Remember that my ideal price range is under $200, with a max of $250. Not about to drop $$$ on a guitar I won't use that often and going to leave at my girlfriends house.

I might spend the extra $50 and get the Epiphone SG G-400 as it's a nice looking guitar with a lot of good reviews.

How does the Agile Valkyrie III compare to it? Is it worth the extra $60 to get the Epi?

I was going to say don't bother, that way you can't jam so you'll have to have sex instead...

but I'd get a Squier '51, well built, cheap and cheerful.

Get an epi dot studio, those go for 50 bucks, and you can probably get a B stock or refurbished one for less than 200$.

Check musicians friend.

Is the Squier 51' a decent guitar for only $99, or is it pure crap?

I just ordered one. Figured I can mess with it, new pups at a later date. Good beat-up guitar. Most reviews made this sound like a great deal, so went with it.

51's a great little guitar, and a solid enough base for upgrading...I have one set up for slide playing which will eventually get a SD Pearly Gates in the bridge, if it behaves itself!

squier telecaster = good choice, a friend of mine has one and its pretty sweet. dunno which exact model it is, but it has two Duncan Designed p90 style pickups, if that helps...
