Hi,

I am wanting to buy a new amp.

I have been playing for about 6 years now and play in a band.
We play pretty much piano based music....like keane, but heavier and then some

Anyway, I need a good amp that will give me good sounds.
I was looking at the VOX AD 100 VT.

I've heard very mixed reviews on this amp.....

What do you all think?

Thanks.

Vox is a good amp. Just not metal. Its more like....maybe Matchbox 20. You know what I mean...rock. Not hard rock, or anything...just rock. Great cleans...not very much gain on the OD.

IMO its more important to have tone than it is gain in that kind if music. Give us a price range and we will be able to give you some more input. But assuing that money isnt that big of an issue I am going to say a tripple recto, a Soldano, a VHT, or a Genz Benz. Something that is known for killer tone. Of course my idea of your musical taste is like gothic metal. I dont know who Keane is. When you said heavier I figured like Nightwish or something. So if Im right...thats my opinion.

Thanks for your reply Crimson_Eve

Keane are a band from the UK.
They not goth metal.

Here is link just to give you some idea of their style.....

I'd say my bad is somewhere between Keane and Queen, so I need something that can give me a bit of everything...

Cheers.

Thanks,

I just wanted to views as i've heard of VOX's being unreliable!

The dealer in my local laughed this off.

He also suggested I get an AC 30!!!

Cheers,

So Queane?

The VOX will be perfect, but if you can stretch to an AC30 you won't regret it...Brain May's amp of choice.

Would the VOX AD 100 VT be perfect though?

I mean, will it last me for a good while?

Depends on what you want - if you don't know the kind of sound you're looking for then it's a good choice, but you'll still probably end up wanting to upgrade again. If you know the tone you're after though, even if it's just in you're head, then you're probably better off looking for an amp that will deliver that well, rather than the Valvetronix which offers several differing tones which are all good, but not as good as the real thing.

I personally wouldn't go for a high-output modelling amp, granted an AC30 is a big step up in price but there's more affordable options. If you want Brian May tones then you'll get pretty damn close with a Laney VC30 and a phaser.

Thanks for the info guys.

Really appreciate it.

I am also looking to get a new, that will be my main guitar for everything (live performance and studio recording) so I am just going to do as much reading up as possible.

Cheers.
