Hey guys, I wanna buy a record player (new, cos I don't know anything about them, and will most definitely overpay...), and I've got a budget of maybe £80 at most. I just want it to play some 7" records I've got (freebies, blind allegiance to certain bands...), I'm not some aspiring dj or anything. :P

Anyway, I was thinking about this:
Sony PSLX250H

Anyone had experience with this one? Or care to suggest some others?

Do you have a stereo reciever? And some speakers?

I doubt people have fought holy wars and killed millions of people in the name of the Beatles, either. So, yeah, Jesus probably was bigger than them.

Record player -> Stereo reciever -> Speakers

I'm not sure if you really need it though, maybe speakers and record players can go together, but usually the back of a record player connects to a reciever with A/V cords (the red and white ones) then the reciever connects to speakers with some http://img.alibaba.com/photo/50546948/Speaker_Wire.jpg">wire.

Hmmm. Is this the kinda thing I probably have somewhere in the attic, or not? Also, what leads do you need to connect everything up?

You probably could, I found mine in my basement. I'm not sure about what you're asking, but think of this. This setup is like a setup for a guitar. The little needle on the record player is a pickup that sends the signals to a receiver, which converts them into sound, and then are amplified through your speakers.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I seem to remember a system we had before our last one, where all the components were seperate (we've got one a bit similar at school too...) I'll try see if I can find it. Thanks for your help!

You're going to need an amplifier for it. You can get those record players very cheap second hand - I payed £10 for my Sony one. Records are great, except when you total up how much you've spent on ltd edition 7" hardcore stuff (1979-1982) haha

And those plugs into here, right?:

By the way, thanks for all the help, especially from KManLink.

basically, at the back of my stereo, there's that, and also the wires that go to the speakers with text above it about ohms, and resistance and stuff... I'll take a picture in a minute.

Ok, way I see it:
Turntable ----> "VIDEO/AUX IN" input ----> speakers out.
