I want to get rid of my guitars. I have a Jackson DXMG and a MIM Strat.

I want to get rid of these guitars because the Jackson doesn't have a tremelo system, were the strat does. However, the strat has such crappy pickups that it sounds horrible when playing anything with distortion.

So what i was going to do is trade in both guitars for one multipurpose guitar. And therein lies my question:
What is a good all around guitar to get? ESP? Jackson Dinky? Gibson? etc.
Any information, suggestions and especially links would be highly appreciated.
Thank you for the info.

My spending limit is under $1,000 USD. My music likes practically anything. like playing Unplugged Eric Clapton, to playing Children of Bodom. Metallica, Dio, ACDC,as well.

No country, but some blues.

Ever think about changing the pickups to something that will sound good w/distortion??? They're not cemented in there you know.

Thank god! For a sec I thought I lost my virginity to a stuffed animal christmas dog!

^ Do you know who that is? It's the guitar player from Fall Out Boy.

American HSS Strat. It has single coils for that beautiful neck clean tone, and the bridge humbucker for the distortion you're after. One of the most versatile guitars ever IMO, and they play damn nice too.
The Laney Thread are big and clever. No exceptions.

They all have trems... unless you don't want a trem; avoid my post! IMO, I think the Ibanez and Jackson would be best for you.

Thank you for the replies. They helped me a lot. I wanted to get the Ibanez RG2550e that Mwoit recommended. But Guitar Center doesn't sell it. (i hate that store, but it's the only one around within 100miles. literally.)

Is there an ibanez or Jackson that can compare to the Ibanez RG2550e?

Also, i could switch the pickups in the strat, but wouldn't a HSS or HSH setup be more useful than a SSS setup?

Thank you.
