When I do a hammer on I lose a LOT of volume from my strings, is that supposed to happen? Cause when I listen to a song where the artist does it seems like it doesn't go down at all.

Maybe you're not doing it quite right, when you hammer try really hitting the string hard.

your going to lose some volume but if u hit it hard and near the end of the fret u should not lose to much

plus you can note that most professionals that record can get a sustainer pedalfor their guitar. The sound that way won't go away to speedily.

keep practicing until you calluses build up. After that the volume drop off is not as noticeable
