ok, so i know you use an audio taper pot for your volume controls, but for your tone controls, do you use a linear taper? or an audio taper with a capacitor?

Does anyone know I'm making a guitar now and need to know now that I think about it you can't just use 3 of the same pots for tone and volume right? I've also made a strat but I bought the pickguard prewired and never paid any attention to the wirring.

Usually you'd want to use a linear pot for tone, but manufacturers often use log pots, so they only have to stock one type of pots (and thus can cut costs a bit).

so your saying you can use audio tapers for both?

Yes. I'd personally use a linear pot for tone - with a log pot the change is too small at the beginning and too abrupt at the end. Your mileage may vary, of course.
