I play metal, but also some lighter gain stuff, the highest gain i'd probably aiming at would be BLS/Pantera and lowest would be some nice bluesy cleans to a AC/DC-esque crunch.

http://soundslive.co.uk/product.asp?id=5681 Personally my jaw dropped when I saw that offer, for the price I think it's unbelievable value.

http://soundslive.co.uk/product~name~Marshall---DSL401~ID~1354.asp I don't know a great deal about that one, other than it's the best Marshall I can get for the price.

In my position/budget (around the £400 mark, but it's flexible, depending on what I'd be getting for my extra money), what would you get out of those two? Or would you go for something completely different?

Unfortunately not at the moment, I'm inbetween bands, although i'll be playing at school events and jamming sessions until I get a band sorted out.

Might as well go for the Fallen Angel, it's a great amp. They're cheap because Ashdown are re-branding their guitar amps under the name "Hayden", so they want to clear all the old stock from the retailers.

I think the new models have a touch more gain, and they're called "peacemaker" instead of fallen angel, and they're beige! You can see that the chassis is the same though, and most of what's inside will be the same too.

Well I am not a fan of Ashdown. By all means go for a boosted DSL head but if you spend 400 now the time will come where you will want something else and wish you had that 400. I assume your in the 300-400 dollar range based on those to amps. My suggestion is to see if you cant save up a bit more considering your not playing out yet, but if you absolutely must buy one of those two....go for the marshall I suppose.

Ah yeah, does look very similar to the FA. It reminds me a lot of a boutique amp actually.
