Ok, I need a really unique sounding overdrive, something that doesn't sound like anyone else. I have around $70 to spend, I'd rather not go up but I can. I play a lot of instrumental (think Vai, Satch, Petrucci) and I will be using it for mostly lead work. I don't mind buying used. Any ideas?

you could try changing the tubes that could generate a little difference in overdrive. but other than that theres really nothing for that price that would change your sound alot. an overdrive pedal could change it a little but nothing unique. to get a unique sound (like boston for example) you need to mod your amp alot

The Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive can layer clean and overdriven sounds, but I don't know how well it would work for artists like that.
