my friend has an all tube marshall head, he leaves the standby and power switches on all the time, and when he finishes playin he just hits the surge protector switch to off. i thought i read sumwhere that you should not do this. so i just got my amp and am wondering if it is bad to like unplug it b4 u hit the power switch on the amp. (my amp isn't tube btw, in case that matters)

Off --> Standby --> Wait 30 seconds --> On --> Play!

The safest method for turning it on is what Jinskee said.

The safest method for turning it off is doing the reverse (On --> Standby --> Wait --> Power off).

Not applicable for a non-tube amp, however.
