My dad has always preached the "only a good guitarist can make good music" thing... but in a slew of recent discoveries , it seems to me hes a nirvana fan... but will deny it to an extreme... here is the evidence

1. He taped the nirvana unplugged, and when i mentioned it, he said its only because rod stewart also played, but the rod stewart section was never taped...

2. he has the unplugged in ny on tape... and my mom says he bought it the day it came out

3. before i was in to nirvana, he bought Kurt Cobain's journals, and read them all... but none the less insults kurt on a daily basis

4. i got the with the lights out box set for christmas, and frequently find him listening to it, claiming he can get the cd player to eject the disc

5. he borrowed my ipod to work out with, and when i got it back it was on the nirvana artist playlist, and it was halfway down...

so reading all this, is my dad a nirvana fan, and if so why does he deny it?

I think your family has trust issues.

But if you insert 'gay porn' instead of Nirvana in every sentence, I think we may be on to something here.

I wasn't flaming m8. I meant maybe he believes they're overrated and that's why he doesn't wanna give in to that conformity. I've never touched a bear in my life.

Nirvana were overrated. Thankyou.

Yeah, it's not like they revolutionized mainstream music by combining Metal with Pop and basically opening the pathway for all of the music in the 90s. Oh, wait...they kinda did.

They didn't revolutionize music, they made Grunge.

No, but writing shit songs with piss poor vocals, and even worse guitar playing skills does.

I hope you aren't planning on making this a Nirvana-Bashing thread. Keep in mind some people consider it flaming. (Thread topic: Is my dad a Nirvana Fan?)

I'm sorry if I come off in the wrong way...

in the recent days i realize that i now dislike nirvana, but back when i was 14 i was all like "WOOOOO NIRVANA! YEAH bOi!!" now i'm like "yeah overrated" you just can't love some bands forever.....

Yes, he's a Nirvana fan. The real question is who cares?
It's difficult to win unless you're bored.
#32
Maybe he wants to educate himself before making an opinion. If more people did that, the world be a better place. I know quite a lot about Nirvana and I'm not a fan.

hahaha, so basically he doesn't have the pride to admit that crap artists can produce good music. But he also he probably can't see any skill in Nirvana so is ashamed he likes it. (sorry, but i really don't feal Nirvana had skill, they were able to write really well, just not back it up with decent musicians)

Ofcourse he might be a conspiracy buff, and he might just be reasearching how Cobain really died. It woul explain why he is listening to them if he is trying to hear something we are missing in Cobains lyrics

No no no *smacks forehead*

A good artist (ie: musician, painter, dancer, etc) makes good art (ie: music, paintings, dance). A good guitarist just plays guitar well.

It seems that your dad does like Nirvana, maybe he thinks he won't seem like an adult if he likes Nirvana (strange yes, but it's your dad not mine).
