My friend says he's joining the jazz band at school, and he's using that as an excuse to get another guitar.

Anyway, I'm trying to help him out a bit.

So, Epiphone Dot or Ibanez Artcore?

Any other intelligent suggestions are welcome.

Thanks, you guys rock.
It's true, this stuff I make up.
Elitist Dot or Sheraton.
Bands to see before I die:
Iron Maiden
Foo Fighters
Reel Big Fish
Streetlight Manifesto

Epi LP Standard
Washburn Strat
Line 6 Spider (Yes, I know it's bad)

Ibanez RG3570Z
Digitech Whammy
I own a Dot, and I'd deffinatly reccomend it. You can get a really good clean depending on what amp you use, and really you can get close to any style out of it. Playability is great. The thing to be careful of is the ammount of bass that thing puts out. I went to try out a Fender Hotrod at a local music shop and it sounded completely distorted even on the clean channel. The dealer said it was because my guitar had too much bass, but for all i know it was just a shitty amp. I play it through a Vox AD50VT and really couldn't be happier with it.
He doesn't have that much money. Sorry, I forgot to mention it.

EDIT: Budget - 4-500 MAX.

Les Pauls can do jazz, considering they were originally designed by a jazz guitarist. Also, check out the Wild Kat, as that is a quite good jazz guitar.
Agile 3100 CSB
ESP MH400 w/ Trem-Setter
Epi G-310
Applause Acoustic

1968 Fender Vibrochamp - Great amp, only $100 fixxer-upper
Line 6 Spider II

Ya LP can do jazz. Thats what I use in jazz only because I dont have a strat. But out of those 2, id say the dot.

I'd go for the artcore...Semi-hollows sound really nasty to me, get the proper full hollow. The artcore probably plays better too, the Dot was pretty underwhelming for me.
The Laney Thread are big and clever. No exceptions.
Take a look at the Cort Larry Coryell sig model. For the price, I've yet to see a better quality/equipped Jazz guitar.
