Ok, I just posted in this thread about how I don't understand guitarists like Malmsteen, Steve Vai, or Joe Satriani. Read that first please.

I just don't get it. They think they're gods and "composers". It's the most pretentious bullshit I've ever heard. They can play fast. So ****ing what?. I can't even consider it soloing, because solos are supposed to just be really cool melodies, that actually have emotion and feeling. I get absolutely nothing from watching these people shred all the time. I think it's the stupidest thing ever.

I brought this into the shred forum for a reason though. I want all of you shred/progressive fans to show/tell me why they are so great. I'm up for an argument.
Prove me I'm wrong. Please.

EVH owns them all. Pretentious is a good way of putting it.
I'm a rockstar without the skills, fame, or income.

first of all, 95% of joe's stuff isn't trying to be fast. he is actually emotional, if you listen to him enough. steve's stuff just makes me laugh, and that IS an emotion. yngwie makes me want to die, which i guess...is...an...emotion. whatever.

Cheap amps are "that bad". They suck up your tone like cocaine at Kate Moss' party.

You, my friend, are a close minded fool. And an arrogant sonofabitch to boot!
You're OPINION is that it is not good, and that these so called "pretentious" people think the world of themselves.
Other people will disagree, but your personal opinion will not change.
You brought this to the forums to start an argument, not to find if you like these artists.
If you liked them, you wouldnt have posted your little bitch fit over other peoples reactions to your first thread.

To be quite honest, It's only Yngwie Malmsteen who loves himself.
Steve Vai is not very egotistical himself, and to be honest could be for many reasons, one being he has actually composed music for a full orchestra and a guitar piece together, this is called Lotus Feet and I do highly recommend you listen to it.
Joe Satriani is also very much down to earth, I have met the man and he is an amazingly friendly chap.

If you're looking for senseless shred and soloing, check out Michael Angelo Batio. Hes quite the show off IN MY OPINION.

EDIT:
Heres the video of Steve Vai and the Metropole Orchestra performing together.

Ok, I may have been a little more harsh than I meant to. It's just listening to Malmsteen puts me in a very angry mood.
I actually did come in here to see if I liked any of these people. I'm not close-minded, it's just that everything I've heard always annoyed me, so I honestly thought that the genre sucked.

I just heard Vai's Tender Surrender and a song from Lotus Feet. My apologies. He is actually pretty good. Sometimes I found it a bit repetitive though. There is only so much you can do in a solo without repeating yourself that lasts 7 minutes.

What about Joe Satriani?
