Well Im really into funk, rock and blues and my favourite band is RHCP. Well I want to learn a new style of music but what should I learn? Is something like The Mars Volta good and pretty hard to play? I want to learn something that isnt metal - I dont really like playing metal that much. So any suggestions - styles or bands?

Blues is a good genre to learn. Helps with your phrasing, and it has a lot of feeling in it. Listen to people like B.B. King.

If you like the Mars Volta, then go ahead and learn them. Other bands that would be fun to learn are Jimi Hendrix (or the JHE, rather), Incubus, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Sublime, and Muse.

mmm nice idea. I want to play stuff thatll make me better and writing my own stuff too. I'll definitely look into blues. Also, is Jazz Fusion any good?
