K so im getting a Marshall Dsl 401 soon and im trying to sort of achieve a Vai-ish type heavy lead tone. Kinda like Cesar Huesca http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKZ3KbieByg ....If you know who he is, but anyway for this I know im going to need an overdrive pedal. I've been looking at the MXR ZW44 wylde overdrive because Cesar Huesca uses it and his tone sounds pretty killer.

So will it do the trick?

O and for the delay I already have a Behringer DD100. Cheap...but it does the trick.

eh no not really. Its used for any kind of boost. Lots of "metal" bands use em. They add more depth to tone and do it rather clearly.

the Wylde OD is designed by a drunk man. while you'll get a boost it wont be clear and sound like rambling.

Yeah but he's also got an Ibanez JEM and I doubt he's using a Line 6 Spider

Guarantee that getting a better amp and guitar will help more than any pedal.

ZWOD are ok ive got, there are pretty GODDAMN noisy, go with a ts9 is you can, ZWOD's cost more because there "zakk wylde" signature, so anything with his name on it costs more, its gay

Like everybody said, it's noisy as hell. I can't use it unless I have my noise gate on.
You're better off getting a TubeScreamer; although I've never used one myself I've heard nothing but great things about them.

TS808 is good for metal too. Very clear and good for those "Screaming Lead sounds". Good midrange

Get the Maxon Od, same as the Tubescreamer but its true bypass, or you can mod the TS to true bypass...
#17

Hell yeah! What you can do too is use the valve king's OD to do your rythm parts then boost with the tubescreamer for solos. Or you can also get great rythm sounds out of the TS. It's a very, very versatile overdrive. You can even use it for jazz (Think Pat Metheny, Mike Stern etc).
