Hey, I'm a very effects based guitarist and I'm looking for a new amp. I was planning on getting a crate Powerblock for the Head and then finding a transparent speaker to run it through. Thus using my effects in the loop on the Powerblock. Is this a good idea?

Thanks in advance

If youre just gunna use the PowerBlock as a power amp, I would say to just buy an actual power amp. You can get good 250watt+ power amps for not much more than the Crate and theyll be much more transparent.

Cheers. Would it have an effects loop?

I don't know much about power amps, so I'll leave that to someone else.
As far as speakers though, speaker interaction is important to a guitar sound, so 'transparent' speakers tend not to work very well as they will be harsh and thin. Your best bet is probably something fairly versatile, like a greenback or a vintage 30.

A power amp doesnt have an effects loop. Its 'Input' is the same thing as a guitar amp's effects loop. Power amps dont have pre-amps, which makes them the best for running multi-FX and such.
