So I have been thinking about getting a new nut for my classical guitar. But I don't know the first thing about the different materials nuts are made of and how they affect resonance and other stuff. Does anyone know alot about nuts or know of a site that'll give me a rundown of pros and cons of the different kinds of nuts?

and yeah...I said nut alot.

Well graphite is always nice because it lubricates itself which lets your guitar stay in better tune for longer. Supposedly Earvana nuts have better intonation throughout the fretboard but I can't say whether it's actually true or not. Most nuts are made out of corian unless otherwise noted.

And that's about all I know.

Ok well theres the regular stuff which is just like plastic, and they are alright decent intonations blah balh blah.

Then theres graphite what self lubes itself and keeps intonation better.

theres also bone which has amazing sustain and good tone.

Then there are a huge bundle of other materials for nuts.

But classical guitars dont' have a lot of nut choices. Mostly its just bone plastic and maybe wood.

I'd go for a bone nut personally

These threads remind me of the time a guy working at a music store advised me not to use heavy strings because they may bust my nut.

I'd reccomend a bone nut for a few reasons. One, there's not much on an acoustic that needs a slippery nut like graphite. Two, plastic is sonicly inferior. Three Earvana nuts would have to be custom made for a classical guitar. Four, Bone sounds great.

There are also materials which sound similar to bone, have less smelly dust, and are certain to please thos pesky PETA supporters.
